ITP AI Hub – AI Governance Platform & Policy Implementation

Department of Primary Industries (formerly Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry)

Cross-functional platform, security, and governance specialists

Project Overview

Queensland Government AI governance implemented in practice through the ITP AI Hub -an Azure-hosted workspace of eight live applications that embed policy compliance into the tools staff use every day. Led by our principal consultant in an embedded AI governance role, the engagement translated QGEA AI directions, the FAIRA framework, and privacy obligations into working platform controls rather than shelf-bound policy documents.

Project Impact

The AI Hub turned Queensland Government AI policy into day-to-day practice, giving staff governed, compliant AI tools while giving executives the controls, visibility, and assurance the QGEA and FAIRA frameworks demand.

Project Objectives

Translate QGEA AI directions and departmental policy into enforceable platform controls

Embed AI governance directly into everyday delivery tooling

Uplift staff AI capability safely through structured, practical training

Evaluate sovereign, on-premises AI capability for executive decision making

Project Scope

The engagement covered end-to-end design and delivery of a governed AI workspace, spanning access control, approval workflows, a governed Azure OpenAI tenancy, and the integration of governance obligations into delivery tooling used across the organisation.

Key Areas

  • Role-based access and administrator approval workflows
  • Governed Azure OpenAI tenancy configuration
  • Linking work boards, portfolio planning, and resource requests to FAIRA assessments
  • Self-paced, gamified AI capability training with AI-graded practice
  • Local LLM proof-of-concept remit for sovereign AI evaluation

Key Achievements

Policy Made Operational

Translated QGEA AI directions and departmental policy into live platform controls, including role-based access, approval workflows, and a governed Azure OpenAI tenancy

Governance Embedded in Delivery

Linked work boards, portfolio planning, and resource requests directly to their FAIRA assessments so compliance travels with the work

AI Capability Uplift

Implemented a self-paced, gamified training course taking staff from AI basics to safe, effective prompting with live, AI-graded practice

Sovereign AI Evaluation

Produced a Local LLM proof-of-concept remit for directors evaluating on-premises sovereign AI capability
